Our story began in 1932 with the forming of the Anchor & Chain Factory in Schiedam. At the heart of the Rotterdam port area, this location was an ideal setting to provide our manufacturing skills to the ever-growing maritime market. Due to the company’s expansion, we moved to larger premises in Vlaardingen half a century later.
After the acquisition of Vlaardingen Oost Shiprepair by the Damen Shipyards Group we returned to Schiedam in 2005, under the new name of AKF. By joining the Damen family, AKF experienced new opportunities for growth that were reflected in the move to the Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam site. This is where we operate today as an independent business.
Joining Damen brought about opportunities to achieve new goals still with our continued dedication to quality and our commitment to 24/7 service.
We began to focus on trading anchors and chains manufactured by third parties as a response to changing global manufacturing industry. However, our customers needed more than just a place to buy anchors, so we kept our in-house manufacturing expertise. This was crucial to continue offering customers repair and modification services in addition to custom fabrication projects. You can see the same skills in Lloyd’s Register-approved testing facilities which can handle loads up to 2,000 tonnes.
